Take a trotro from the city centre to the beach
Want to immerse yourself in culture and relax in Ghana? Book a flight to Accra and learn all about the Ashanti culture in the National Museum or go shopping in Accra Mall. A walk around the impressive Osu Castle is also definitely worthwhile. If you like to party, stay up until the early hours in the friendly neighbourhood of Osu.
Rummage around a market
Whether you’re looking for African fabrics or trinkets, you’re sure to find them in Accra’s markets. Makola Market is very well known, and we also recommend Kaneshi Market, especially if you want to stock up on traditional African beads. Don’t forget to haggle! If you’re visiting in August or September, you’re in luck. You’ll see people drumming and dancing on the streets in honour of the Homowo harvest festival. The Twins Parade is also quite a spectacle! Accra is not only the ideal destination for a city trip, but also as the starting point for a longer vacation in West Africa. Treat yourself: book a flight to Accra now!
Dancing on the beach
Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park is ideal if you want to escape the city bustle. This serene park was created in memory of Ghana’s first president, and houses his mausoleum. If you need to cool down, take a trotro minibus and head to a beach. The best known beaches in Accra are Bojo Beach and Labadi Beach, where there is always music and other entertainment. Wind down with a drink in one of the delightful beach tents.
